Lots of things going on
May. 16th, 2006 07:49 amAs I quickly write this morning, they're halfway through their work in the apartment. Horrible smell overnight though, had to sleep with the windows open. Then again, my nose is sensitive to just about anything. Weirdest thing is what they've done with the shower fixture. It's now in the wall, which in the layout of this apartment means that it goes over the tub across the WIDTH of it, which is far shorter. Previously, the only way the shower head went over the length of the tub was because it was mounted with a bracket fastened through the pipe that hangs the shower curtain. So it's nice to have something more firmly mounted BUT looking at the angle of the half mounted shower head I just don't see how it can stay IN the tub. If they were banking on everyone taking baths, that won't work with me. People with seizure disorders (especially living alone) aren't supposed to do that for the drowning risks involved. So we'll see what I can figure out.
I got all my writers together for a good meeting the other Sunday, and my prose group launches this Sunday. But this is all I'm going to manage for a bit. Definitely no more attempts at larger events for a while. Right now I just want my Poetry and Prose groups to grow.
Also got my story mailed off for the Writer's Workshop at WorldCon. I did find a few thousand words I was comfortable excising to abbreviate the story, though in a larger theme context we'll see if it truly works with its absence. They could call me to participate any time between the Wednesday and the Sunday of WorldCon, and as I'm going for all five days, that will work.
Still working on the book when I can, but I have to admit I've been slower than prior months.
On top of that I went from being home sick (with no sick pay yet) to working a 10.5 hour day near the end of the same week, so my overtime will make up for the "normal" hours lost, but still. Let's just say the next few weeks at work are bringing a lot of things going on.
That said, did make it to an advance screening of OVER THE HEDGE last night. Absolute fun! And I had no idea it was based on a pre existing comic strip. Dreamworks (working with the creators) decided to do the untold story about how the stars of the strip - the racoon and turtle -- met. It was a very fun night.
