Working and Writing...

Been a wearing last few days. I'll spare the details, but after working those long nights and having to eat dinner out afterwards... I picked up food poisoning somewhere. Caused me to miss Kevin's birthday party Sunday, which I really Did Not Like :(
(Kevin, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is a first in the 9 birthdays I've been here for...)
The whole deal kept me pretty well drained until yesterday evening and today was my first day back at work. I don't get any sick, vacation, or personal time until July as it is... so that wasn't too thrilling either. Fortunately it wasn't too crazy today but I know the next few weeks will be. Good thing I'm not going anywhere until Comic-Con in July. Can't afford to.
Being sick also put a dent in the whole animation book project. It's hard enough fitting in two chapters a month when I'm well! But I will press on, I refuse to give up.
I've gotten back into doing more reading though. Recently was able to read some more manga: DEARS Vol 4, and LOVE HINA Vol 12. While overall I still like the characters in LOVE HINA, I'm starting to feel like the stories are just too thin variations on the same (Japanese writing does tend to have some variations on same, it just seems too frequent here right now); DEARS I'm more interested in figuring out the philosophy and culture behind the DEARS than the characters at this point, to be honest. I'm also wrapping up reading a nonfiction book by Anne Lamott called TRAVELING MERCIES for when I lead the Literature Group in July, our regular leader will be out on a cruise and since this book is about a writer I thought I'd give it a try.
Also have to prep for the next writing group meetings I have to do, which are back to back the last Sunday in June. I don't think I mentioned before that I now have a small prose group going in addition to the poetry one. However, due to scheduling issues both have to be on the same day this month.
The prose people I am working with vary but include one who is just starting out, so we are beginning with building a character. I mean, you can have a great story concept, but if you don't have someone of quality to follow through that story concept, odds are it's not going to hold together to the finish; it's also valuable stuff for the experienced ones to revisit too (not to mention me!). I haven't decided what we're doing for poetry, it's been on hiatus as my main person was out of the country a few months and the others have not been able to attend.
Not much else from down LA way save these crazy warm temperatures. Whatever happened to 'June gloom' as they tend to say?
